Virginia - Part 2 (finally)
The first two pictures are from Jefferson's home, Montecello.
We then went to Mitchie Tavern. We got to try out a feather pen like they used to write with. I have always been curious to try one. It was actually a lot easier to use than I thought it would be.
I really liked the ladie who gave the tour. She had us do a dance here that was a lot of fun. She wanted to dance with Micah, but this is a picture of him running away from her. Oh well.
Next stop Ash-Lawn, Monroe's home. Too bad we forgot to get any pictures of the actual home. : )
We then went to Colonial Williamsburg. I guess that someone donated 300 + acres to the College of William and Mary. (right next door to Williamsburg) They choose to keep the area as close in appearance to the original town as possible and open it for people to see what it was like back then. They had a play where they acted out stuff that was happening back then. Revolutionary type stuff. It was interesting.
We got to see a lot of people working in their "trades". The people there even though they were paid to teach an audience really did make the product just like they would have if they lived back then. All of them were facinating. It made me realize how fast everything happens now compared to back then. I had wonder when they had time to take care of kids when everything you did seemed to take WAY longer.
The last photos are from historic Jamestown. I guess that just a few years ago they discovered the original site of Jamestown and have been slowly escavating the area. It was pretty facinating to hear about all of the cool stuff they have discovered. Jamestown was the first successful English colony and it has been 400 years this year since it was planted. I think it was the first capital. When people got tired of being eaten by mosquitos because the site was surrounded by swamps, they moved the capital to Williamsburg. (the pictures just above) But Williamsburg was only 6 miles from the coast so when we went to war with Britain they were afraid of attack and so they moved the capital to Richmond, where it still is today.
This last picture is for Mom and Jim. Our rental car was a jeep. : )

Wow, I don't know if I would have thought Virginia was that interesting.
Did I tell you Lisa and Diane are moving there for school? They leave tomorrow.
